Introduction

 August 19th, is an important day in world calendar as people celebrate World Photography Day on this day. It is also known as World Photo Day.

History

On August 19, the French government acknowledged the invention of photography so the day is observed worldwide to celebrate the art and history of photography. The day encourages photographers throughout the globe to glorify their efforts and creations.

Origin

The word “photography” literally means “drawing with light”. The word was first used by the British scientist Sir John Herschel in 1839. The word ‘photography’ has been derived from the Greek words ‘phos’ means “light” and ‘graphê’ means “drawing or writing”. Photography was invented in 1822. Joseph Nicéphore Niépce was the person who had captured the still photograph for the first time.

Mainly there are four major types of photography. They are portrait photography, landscape photography, long exposure photography and macro photography.

Photography in Modern Era

Very interestingly, each and every year World Photography Day focuses on a theme. In 2023, the theme of this day is “Understanding Clouds”. Photography plays an amazing role in society as it captures the iconic shots from the beauty of nature to the special or candid moments that tell the stories of everyday life of that specific time.

 Photography has the power to create memories. Since the early 19th century, the way of photography has been modifying. It is the medium to capture nature, personal expression, festivals, objects and what not? Photography is praised by the countless people around the world.
