World Environment Day is celebrated on 5th June annually. It is a global celebration for inspiring people to be careful about nature. People from more than 150 countries participate in this United Nation’s international day programme . The day celebrates environmental action and the power of governments, businesses and individuals to create a more sustainable world. The day is being celebrated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since its inception in 1973.
Why is 5 June celebrated as environment Day?
In 1972 in Sweden at Stockholm a Conference was held on Human Environment on 5th June. Marking the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, the UN General Assembly designated 5 June as World Environment Day. From that time, this day is celebrated pompously through out the world.
About this year’s celebration:
In 2024, the hosting country to observe the World Environment Day globally is Saudi Arabia. The theme of this year is ‘Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience’. The theme has been chosen to emphasize the critical environmental challenges and imbalanced ecosystems worldwide. To gift the next generation a wonderful place to live in ,a slogan also be taken. The slogan is: “Our land. Our future. We are Generation Restoration.”
