When is the celebrated:
Across the world, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in various countries. This day is dedicated to recognise and honour the role of fathers, grandfathers, and father like figures in our lives.
Origin of celebrating this day:
Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, is usually regarded for originating Father’s Day. She got this idea in 1909 while listening to a speech on Mother’s Day, which people celebrate on the second Sunday of May. In United States, the celebration of this day started in 1910. Not only that, this is a holiday for many countries throughout the world. Since the Middle Ages, in Catholic countries of Europe, the day is celebrated on 19 March as Saint Joseph’s Day.
What is used to signify the day:
Red roses are used on the day of Father’s Day as they signifies love, affection, and how much you care about him. Besides, the red rose is used to show honour and respect for fathers.
Father’s Day celebration in India:
Celebration of Father’s Day is not an original custom of India but now a days, Indians are following this day, being influence by the western culture. In India, the day is observed on the third Sunday of June. This event is not a public holiday here. For some years , many programs, quizzes, speeches etcetera are organised to honour the tireless efforts of our fathers who always try to gift us a smooth and happy life.
Significance of celebrating this day:
The day provides an opportunity for children and other family members, to express gratitude and love towards their fathers or father figures. Through various activities, everyone tries to acknowledge the father’s role in nurturing, and supporting their children. For most of the children, their fathers act as the role model for them who is nothing but a huge sheltering tree for the child.
