Krishna Janmashtami is a popular Hindu festival. People celebrate this in India as well as in abroad. Krishna Janmashtami is  also known as Gokulashtami. It is a significant festival in India that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna. It is a auspicious spiritual day.  

When is the day celebrated:

According to the legends, the eighth son of Devki, Lord Shri Krishna was born on the 8th day of the dark fortnight of the month of Bhadra. According to English calendar, the day falls in the month of August or September. This year the Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated on 26th of August, 2024.

Why is the day celebrated:

Krishna Janmashtami is the birthday of Lord Krishna. There is a belief that Lord Krishna appeared over 5,200 years ago to Devaki and Vasudeva in Mathura. The day also serves as a reminder of Krishna’s infinite love for his devotees, and an opportunity to open our hearts to receive and reciprocate that love. This day is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Lord Krishna.

Krishna Janmashtami plays an important role to bring people together. The day spreads the message of peace, love, and harmony. The festival also celebrates Krishna’s lessons and the qualities he represented. The day celebrates divine joy and love of Krishna’s life. 

Celebrations often include activities that imitate Krishna’s childhood play. It includes building a human pyramid to break an earthen pot filled with milk, which is hung from a tall pole in the street , stealing curds that were hung out of reach of children by their mothers etcetera. Besides, Lord Krishna is worshipped pompously in almost all the Hindu houses.

Celebration of this day is a reminder to have faith in the Almighty and  letting know that everything that occurs is for the best. Crying over the past and worrying about the future actually serve no purpose. Therefore, everyone should enjoy the present moment and spread the love, not hatred.
