Introduction:

International Day of Peace is observed on 21st September around the world. For the first time it was observed in September 1982. The day gives importance to promote Peace , non-violence and unity. The United Nations General Assembly has declared this day to strengthen the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. 

Importance of celebrating International Day of Peace:

Celebration of this day has an immense importance as it emphasises on such terms like : harmony, unity, peace, tolerance, solidarity etc. Today’s world is full of some negative feelings or thoughts like: intolerance, hatred , cruelty etc. So in such an era, people should be more passionate to spend their life peacefully, forgetting their worries and hatred.  Only through this way, spreading more awareness, we can have a better place to live in amicably with others. Then only celebration of this day must be a meaningful one.

Activities of this day:

The main activities for the day include peace marches, educational events, and moments of silence, often centred around the Peace Bell Ceremony held at the United Nation headquarters in New York. Through out the world, this day is celebrated only to cultivate peace among people.

Key aspect of celebrating this day:

The day provides an opportunity for individuals, families , societies, communities, and nations to reflect or to promote peace and resolve conflicts. Each year, the United Nations selects a specific theme to focus global attention on key aspects of peace-building and conflict resolution.

Motto of celebrating International Day of Peace:

The dove is a symbol that is associated with the International Day of Peace. The theme of this day of 2024 is ‘Cultivating a Culture of Peace’. The main motto of this day to Live together in peace with accepting differences and having the ability to listen to, recognize, respect and appreciate others, as well as living in a peaceful and united way. 

Minute of Silence:

‘Minute of silence’ is such an important term which is very much related with International Day of Peace. On 21st of September at 12pm.,  people observe a minute of silence to honour victims of war and conflict, reflecting on the importance of peace worldwide.

Peace Education:

Now a days, schools, NGOs, and local communities often organize workshops, discussions, and activities to educate young people about peace building, conflict resolution, and non-violence. Everything is done for making the world more peaceful place to live in.

Conclusion:

The International Day of Peace is not just a symbolic date. This day emphasizes on the practical actions to promote and sustain peace around the world. The celebration of International Day of Peace is a global reminder that peace is not just the absence of war.
