 In India , Independence Day is on 15th August. It is a national holiday for India. On this day, in 1947 India achieved freedom from the British rule who were controlling the nation for more than 200 years.

Information about this year’s Independence Day:

This is the year when India is going to celebrate her 78th Independence Day with glory. India’s Independence Day theme for 2024 is ‘Viksit Bharat’.  The theme of this year symbolizes the vision of a developed nation by the year 2047. This theme encourages  the every  Indian  to get a more progressed and developed country in future.

The importance of Independence Day:

August 15, 1947, was more than just a day for every Indian. It represented the beginning of a new chapter to have a free life. And for achieving this freedom, no one should forget the sacrifices of the freedom fighters that they had made for the country. This day teaches every Indian the real value of liberation and freedom. Independence Day encourages every Indian forgetting their differences, to establish their true spirit of ‘Unity in Diversity’

How is the Day celebrated:

From the Red Fort, the Prime Minister of our country addresses the whole nation and hoists the national flag to celebrate the Independence Day. All the educational institutions, organisations and clubs conduct a ceremony for flag hoisting in different parts of our country.

 In  many places, patriotic cultural programmes are also organised for celebrating this day. On this day, people pay tribute to the great freedom fighters who fought bravely and sacrificed their lives for the  motherland. The celebration of this day, makes the children aware of the history of the country.

As India got her freedom after being captivated for more than 200 years under the British rule, its now the duty of every Indian to maintain India’s glory. India has a rich cultural heritage and every Indian should try to maintain the glory. It is also a day to rebuild India’s commitment to democracy, secularism, and social justice.
